OPI, Inc., a manufacturer of Hydraulic Drillpip Breakout vices and Drillpipe spinners introduces its remote Makeup/Breakout-Spinup/Spinout Unit. This hydraulically operated unit (patent pending) will handle pipe O.D.'s from 2-7/8" to 9" O.D. with a maximum torque of 63,000 ft. lbs. and a maximum breakout torque of 75,000 ft. lbs. of torque. After breakout of the Drillpipe, the Hydraulic Drillpipe Spinner is activated to spinout the Drillpipe. When making up Drillpipe, the Drillpipe Spinner is activated to spin the drillpipe together and the Hydraulic Vices are activated to makeup the Drillpipe to the prescribed levels observed by a Torque Gauge at the operations console. The Makeup/Breakout-Spinout Unit has 36" of horizontal travel. The operator can control the unit 15 to 20 feet away from the connection as it is being torqued and spun in or out. Vertical units are also available.
